Nōmina @ Forbidden Plateau

Nōmina @ Forbidden Plateau is a premier mental health & addictions retreat centre, specializing in the holistic healing of trauma, addictions,
and other complex mental health conditions.

Nestled high above the ocean, Nōmina @ Forbidden Plateau is located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It is 20 minutes from the City of Courtenay in the Comox Valley. The lodge itself is located on Forbidden Plateau, a former ski area, which boasts some of the most picturesque views of the Georgia Straight and has some of the incredible nature trails. Being situated amongst the old-growth trees creates a truly healing experience. The calming and tranquil environment has been carried into many aspects of the facility itself, creating an inspiring place to get away and transform.

Getting to Nōmina is easy. Major commercial airlines fly into Comox International Airport multiple times per day. It is also a few hours drive from Victoria or Vancouver.

Our location allows us to maximize the healing landscape to offer world-class programs such as the exclusive development of adventure therapy. Nōmina also has clinical expertise in various therapeutic trauma approaches such as ISTDP, EMDR and cognitive modalities such as CBT, DBT, and ACT. With these, Nōmina is able to deliver a comprehensive approach to healing not found elsewhere in other treatment programs.

Working with the Healing Centered Engagement (HCE) model, Nōmina recognizes the importance of someone’s supports and community engagement as part of the healing process.  We respect that the effects of various trauma do not happen in isolation, and that healing is not linear. As such, we make proactive strides to include a person’s support system as part of the integrated healing process. This is different from other models, which will seek to isolate a specific, or targeted problem for treatment, which could lead to missing underlying causes, and may contribute to poor treatment outcomes.

Nōmina works with guests to promote interdependence as part of a collective engagement, which is carried on after the initial treatment stay. By encouraging cultural and social awareness, Nōmina focuses on the strengths each person has, that they can bring back to their collective, thus promoting the betterment of the community and self-driven change.

When you come to Nōmina @ Forbidden Plateau, our most important focus is helping you. The intimate size of our facility allows us to tailor our program to the unique needs of each of our clients. Right from the start, our highly trained registered psychotherapist and mental health specialists meet with you to create a treatment plan, integrating leading evidenced-based techniques to help you heal from the inside out. From one-on-one counselling, healthy living, integrated nutrition, and much more, we offer a comprehensive healing journey.
