Evidence-Based Therapies

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT Therapy), and Direct Neurofeedback (DNF) foster lifelong learning and critical thinking by promoting positive healing outcomes, while being highly effective and less costly.

Nōmina is also one of the only mental health retreat providers in Canada of Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, or ISTDP, which is a highly specialized form of psychotherapy that focuses on emotional processes rather than behaviour to get to the root of the issues quickly. It uses the somatic signals of the body to help identify where emotions get stuck, allowing for more personal awareness and change.

ISTDP

Intensive-Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy focuses on releasing unconscious feelings, anxieties and defences that build up as a result of blocked and avoided complex emotions. This form of therapy is specifically designed to be carried out in a limited number of sessions.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy focus on diminishing negative emotions that are associated with memories of traumatic events, through the use of rapid sets of eye movement. EDMR uses bilateral stimulation to organize negative and positive emotions, feelings and thoughts, in order to update hurtful memories and integrate new perspectives into the present day.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a form of talk therapy that works on changing dysfunctional behaviours, thoughts and emotions by disentangling negative or irrational beliefs. CBT focuses on reframing a person’s cognitive process through attitudes and behaviours, in order to identify harmful thoughts and overcome their emotional distress.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy focuses on providing individuals with the skills necessary to manage painful emotions and establish healthy relationships. DBT focuses on four main skill sets; mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.

Direct Neuro-Feedback

Direct Neurofeedback is a technique that directs extremely low-strength, unnoticeable electromagnetic currents into the brain.  Research has shown that DNF can help with many mental health disorders like: anxiety, depression, PTSD/OSI, addiction, ADD/ADHD, chronic stress, autism, concussions and other brain injuries.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a form of mindfulness therapy that helps patients accept challenges they may face in life. ACT focuses on one’s behaviours and character traits in the aims of reducing avoidant coping styles.
